    Description and origin: Pair of Chinese Fô - Foo dogs. Silver-plated. Foo dogs are imperial guardian lions used as traditional Chinese architectural ornament. The concept originated and became popular in Chinese Buddhism. It features a pair of stylized lions, one male with a ball and one female with a cub. They are thought to protect buildings from harmful spiritual influences and harmful people that might be a threat. They were also used in imperial Chinese palaces and tombs.

    Dimensions: approx. 11 cm x 6.5 cm x 4.5 cm

    Age: late 19th century
